Our Sustainability Policy
LD Sussex Decoration is a family-run painting and decorating business based in Eastbourne, working across East Sussex since 2002. Sustainability for us means three things: using products that are safer for people and buildings, minimising waste on every project, and choosing methods that make paintwork last longer so it needs replacing less often.
If sustainability matters to your project, mention it when you request a quote and we'll suggest the most appropriate materials.
I. Low impact materials
Where a project allows, we use low-VOC and water-based paints that release fewer solvents into your home and the surrounding air. For wooden surfaces we favour natural, eco-friendly oils over solvent-heavy varnishes. Our wooden flooring restoration service uses plant-based hardwax oils as standard.
II. Longevity over quick fixes
The most sustainable paint job is the one that doesn't need redoing for years. We invest time in proper preparation — repairing rather than replacing where possible, and using weather-resistant coating systems on exteriors so finishes endure the East Sussex coastal weather. See our cedar cladding restoration project for an example of restoring rather than replacing timber.
III. Waste and disposal
We plan quantities carefully to reduce leftover paint, re-seal and reuse materials between projects, and dispose of all paint waste through licensed channels in line with COSHH requirements.
IV. Continuous improvement
We keep an eye on new products and techniques, from recycled paint ranges to more durable mineral coatings, and adopt them where they genuinely improve outcomes for customers and the environment.
